About Swami Vivekanand

Swami Vivekananda, a great disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, patriot, nation builder, social scientist and a master organizer. Ramakrishna- Vivekananda revived the spiritual nationalist surge. Swamijis fiery words delivered in his lectures from Colombo to Almorah provided the philosophy for the independence movement and freedom fighter. Swamiji gave Indians proper understanding of their country’s great spiritual heritage. Furthermore, he pointed out to Indians the drawbacks of Western culture and the need for India’s contribution to overcome these drawbacks.

In this way Swamiji made India a nation with a global mission. His pioneering work in promoting the sense of unity, pride in the Indian culture and sense of mission gave the real strength and purpose to India’s nationalist freedom movement. Swamiji’s most unique contribution to the creation of new India was to open the minds of Indians to their duty to the oppressed masses. He spoke about the role of the labouring classes in the production of the country’s wealth, formulated a definite philosophy of service and organized large-scale social service centres.

The 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is the most appropriate occasion for India to prepare herself to rise as the Great Nation and wake up to its potentialities and responsibilities and enlighten the world. Intensive preparations by different organizations are a foot through the length and breadth of our country to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of the great patriotic monk from January 12, 2013 to January 12, 2014. The nationwide celebrations were inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India- Dr. Manmohan Singh, on the 12th January, 2011 in a colourful function at Vigyan Bhavan.

In tune with the recognition of need for intensive research work on the life of Swami Vivekananda and promotion of activities for youth, women, rural sector and tribal based on his philosophy, Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Meshram has taken an earnest and pragmatic step to establish the Swami Vivekananda Studies and Research Centre under the aegis of School of Thoughts at Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon.

India is the young country with the most ancient civilization. It is the one country with 55% of its population in the prime of their youth. The youth of India need to be told about the greatness of Swamiji. He ignited the youth power of India and unleashed it to free the nation from foreign yoke. The 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda presents a right moment and historic opportunity to galvanize the might of the youth power for the welfare of the nation. Moreover elaborate activities in reference to the empowerment of tribal, rural populations and women would be planned.

Following four segments of the society will be focussed

  • Awakening of Youth:
  • Organisation of programmes for the promotion of creative, innovative and enthusiastic youth power (focusing on the student and non- student youth below 30 years age). Various activities for youth will be expressed into seven dimensions: Atmavikas (physical and mental development), Adhytma (Spirituality) Vigyannistha (Scientific Temperament), Adhyayan (Studies), Samata (Social Equality), Seva (Service), and Deshbhakti (Patriotism).

  • Rural Sector for Sustainable Developments:
  • Strengthen and raise the confidence level of the millions of masses living in villages which are the bulwark/ heart of this nation.

For rural sectors, tasks to be done:

    • Many Industrialists have affinity for their villages- to list them out and appeal them for supporting the activities of Studies and Research Center.
    • To list such organizations which are doing pioneering work in village development, organic farming, de-addiction, agrobased professions/ industries etc. They could be associated with Studies and Research Center.
    • To identify villages where the celebration programs would be taken up and also at least one village in University Area where detailed work could be carried.
  • Empowerment of Women:
  • Increase the role and space of women in all walks of life in general and enhancement of their contribution to the society and nation.

  • Empowerment of Tribal:

Respecting, Protection and Upliftment of Tribals through literacy/ spread of education, technology awareness etc.

Programmes will be organised in the tribal areas to raise their level of self-confidence in themselves and promote professional development for facilitation of their overall progress.
