Department of Philosophy

Philosophy grapples with fundamental questions about the nature of reality, knowledge, and how we ought to act. Both in the Indian and in the Western philosophical tradition, answers to these questions have been supported by rigorous arguments. Our course  offer a historically sensitive immersion in these arguments. That having been said, the M.A Philosophy course at School of Social Sciences, Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University aims to equip students to work beyond the parochialism of either the Indian or Western philosophical tradition to do philosophy without boundaries. The Department of Philosophy started functioning from the academic year 2014-15. The thrust areas of teaching and research are Metaphysics (Indian & Western),   Epistemology   (Indian & Western) and Ethics Philosophy (Indian & Western).This Philosophy course   will equip students with critical reasoning and analytical problem-solving skills, expressive precision, and the intellectual spaciousness to appreciate and engage rationally with arguments and points of view with which they profoundly disagree.

Scope of Philosophy :

Philosophers are known to have more creative and original solutions to problems and can easily analyze complex problems as well as examine problems systematically. There are also quite a number of opportunities present in the working world today for students from this field. You will be presented with the option of joining education, government, non-profit sectors. One can look for job opportunities in many sectors which can range from specialist in HR, interviewer, consultant, student affairs, public service, journalism, research, law, diplomacy, insurance, etc. Students who have done research on philosophy can opt for teaching jobs in research institutes, universities and in colleges.

Special Features:

The Department of Philosophy offers M.A post graduate course with 20 seats intake capacity. Departmental courses are divided in a balance between the fields of philosophical theory and concept, Indian and Western Philosophy, Ethical and Metaphysical issues, comparative religion and research methodology.
