Mahila Melava was organised on 8th March 2016 by the Women’s Studies Centre in collaboration with the Dept. of Social Work at Savda village, some eight kms from the university. More than hundred village women participated in the Mahila Melava organised by the local sarpanch Geeta Badgujar. Dr. Madhuri Kasat, Dr.Sheetal Patil addressed the gathering on issues of women’s health, hygiene, nutrition and precautions against cancer. The Head of Dept, Women’s Studies Centre Dr. Shobha Shinde talked about women’s consciousness and awareness as well as confidence building.
An exhibition of the products made by the Women’s Self-Help Groups was organised as well as a poster and rangoli exhibition. The children of the local school dressed up as eminent women leaders and presented group songs on the occasion.
Savda is one of the five villages chosen by North Maharashtra University as Smart Village
Special programmes were organised in the Babu Jajjivanram Ladies Hostel and Minority Girls Hostel on 10th and 11th March 2016. On 10th March 2016, Dr. Tilottama Gajare was invited to give a talk on “Women’s Health and Hygiene”, followed by questions and answers and a lively discussion. Prof. Jyotsna Meshram presided over the function.
On 11th March Mr. Girish Kulkarni of Asha Foundation addressed the girl students on “Preparation for Competitive Examinations” and also on “Personality Development” Prof. Shobha Shinde presided over the function.

The resource persons were Dr. Maya Pandit, Dr. Vidya Deodhar, (Hyderabad) Dr. Ashwini Dhongade (Pune), Neerja (Mumbai), Swati Karve, Dr. Mangala Athalekar (Pune), Dr. Prabha Ganorkar (Amravati), Dr. Satish Badave (Aurangabad), Kavita Mahajan and for the Valedictory Function Hon. Razia Patel, renowned social worker was invited. The Conference concluded with a superb inspirational one act play “Mulagi Zali Ho” on awareness about the social problems and the situation of women in society.
